Is this the Turnip Eater without the fairing,or did that crew have more than one? Maybe if we're lucky the Irishman from the Rock Mnts. will enlighten us.
Same bike, same '57 Sportster. Leo Payne bought that bike brand new in '57, with the specific purpose of drag racing it.
The fairing came after they ran Bonneville in '69 - first unfaired bike to run over 200mph there. They added the fairing, and used it on the strip, and numerous trips to Bonneville.
